Our Lady in Chur, Switzerland

On a rainy Monday morning, the peregrination of the Icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa began on October 15, in the mountainous area of Switzerland.  The Icon was transferred to the Swiss at the Chapel of Mary in Triesen, located in the Principality of Liechtenstein.  Fr. Andreas Fuchs helped transfer the Icon into the minivan, in which Our Lady was to travel.  Indeed, the Swiss, knowing their winding roads in the high mountains, have decided not to use the "Life Mobile," which could have created serious problems in these conditions.  Instead, they chose to drive the Icon by minivan.

Our Blessed Mother left for Switzerland at 8:45 am and had already arrived in Untervaz, in the area of Graubünden, at 9:00 am.  Our Lady was welcomed by the sound of the bells of St. Lawrence, echoing across the surrounding Alpine peaks.  The pastor, Fr. William D'Silva and the residents of Untervaz were full of emotion.  No one had ever imagined that an Icon this precious would visit their church at one point.  During the four-hour long veneration, the faithful prayed individually, and afterwards all participated in the solemn celebration of the Holy Mass.  The singing together of the "Black Madonna" was very momentous.  One of the women was so delighted with that song that she asked to repeat it. Thus the "Black Madonna" was sung once more at the farewell at approximately 1:00 pm.  The participants of the celebration were deeply moved.

On the same day, at three o'clock in the afternoon, the Icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church arrived at the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the capital of the region - Chur, the oldest town in Switzerland.  The bells rang, the organ played.  The rain had stopped and finally, the mountains "peaked out" in all their glory.  The pastor of the cathedral, Fr. Harald Eichhom prepared a brief prayer vigil with silent prayer and meditation.  Next, silent veneration followed.  At about 7:00 pm, the pastor celebrated a solemn Mass.

Subsequently, the Icon travelled to Schmitten, Albula - 1300 meters above sea level, where Our Lady spent the night at Alexandra's parents' house.  Alexandra is the coordinator of the pilgrimage through Switzerland.  There lay a lot of snow in the mountain meadows and along the roadside already.  The minivan had still its summer tires, so everyone prayed anxiously for the road not to be covered with snow and ice, but with Our Blessed Mother in the back seat, there were no problems with the journey back.
